And honestly, that’s what most decor practices in Pune still focus on. But yes, there are some others that still spend time understanding how their space responds to climate, materials, light and obviously the people living inside it. And, Pune-based Esprit architecture follows the second approach! You know, I am an architect myself. And, I had the opportunity to intern with Esprit architecture during my fourth year B.arch, sometime in 2019. Yes, I was a newbie that time. But even then, I couldn’t help but notice sir’s (Ar. Amrut Deshmukh’s) ardent struggle to reinforce global, high-quality perspectives with Indian user-oriented design. But what does that mean? And how does Esprit architecture do that exactly? Let’s check below! Might be their design ethos. Their white-hat practices. But it also means that the practice isn’t staying fixed around trends; it’s learning, adapting, and refining itself along the way. And well, Esprit architecture’s journey reflects that exactly. As Ar. Amrut Deshmukh puts it, “Architecture is timeless, continually enhancing our lives in ways we often take for granted. So, we always try to keep it free, organic and adaptable as per our foundational principles.” In fact, the story actually begins back in 2009 with Arkraft Design Studio. And that time, the team’s prime intention was just to design impactful, functional and creative architectural design projects of diverse scales and briefs. But yes, the studio obviously gained more exposure, international experience and access to new tools with time. And eventually, the design approach evolved too. That evolution finally led to the formation of Esprit Architecture in 2013. It basically was a more forward-looking design practice that focused not just on aesthetics, but also on building design, tech, project delivery and response. And that mindset becomes fairly visible in their work today too. In fact, today, the firm strives to strike a thoughtful balance between functionality, spatial experience, and responsible environmental response. Say like a transformative environment that eventually shapes everyday life together. A Bit About the Principal Architect: Ar. Amrut Deshmukh, I believe, is one of the few architects in Pune who designs with restraint. Like, he doesn’t try to overpower spaces and focuses more on light, materials & movement instead. And honestly, that influence becomes fairly visible in his work too. His design philosophy, for example, revolves around the work of master architects like Charles Correa, Mies van der Rohe, and Tadao Ando. So, it's more timeless and reliable that way. And today, the same flows in Esprit architecture where minimal, sustainable, functional and yet purpose-driven architectural designs are a must! Besides that, Ar. Deshmukh completed his architectural education at Pune University before pursuing his Master’s in Integrated Sustainable Design from NUS Singapore. So needless to say, this exposure to large-scale international projects obviously added another layer of global understanding and local responsiveness to his practice. And interestingly, that doesn’t separate him from his love for functionality either. Instead, the studio treats both as part of the same design process with climate responsiveness, user comfort, feasibility, and spatial experience still in sync. And these projects usually range from 1,000 sq.m to nearly 100,000 sq.m. Thus, Esprit Architecture, in a way, approaches building design less like an isolated visual exercise and more like a long-term system where art, practicality, sustainability, and everyday life quietly come together. Amrut Deshmukh about the ideas and principles that continue shaping Esprit Architecture’s design philosophy today. And honestly, the conversation moved far beyond aesthetics fairly quickly. Instead, Ar. Deshmukh told us about his ideologies to add long-term value through sustainability, climate responsiveness, architectural detailing, and thoughtful technology integration. Because in today’s unpredictable environmental conditions, designing homes that simply “look good” no longer feels enough, right? So, the Esprit team tries to leverage Ar. Amrut Deshmukh’s experience & tech to create warm, textured, functional and equally convenient spaces for all its clients. Here are the exact details: Experiential Design: So, Ar. Deskhmukh brings over 16 years of experience, international project exposure, and a Master’s from NUS Singapore to shape Esprit Architecture’s balanced and globally aware design approach. Sustainability Integration: Instead of treating sustainability as an added layer, the studio integrates climate responsiveness, resource efficiency, and contextual thinking directly into every stage of the design process. Architectural Detailing: Esprit Architecture pays close attention to the quieter details; facade treatments, natural light, utilities, and material choices that eventually define how spaces function and feel over time. Building Long-Term Client Relationships: The studio focuses largely on transparent communication, collaborative workflows, and long-term relationships that continue well beyond project completion. Project Snapshot 1 : Nanded City Bungalow | Weaving Global Outlooks with Indian Warmth. © Esprit Architecture, Pune Year: 2025 | Plot Area: 250 sq.m | Built-up Area: 348 sq.m “It was peak summer. A young Dubai-based entrepreneur approached us with a vision for his new beginning in India. And we visualized the opportunity to create something truly special. Like, a modern bungalow design that reflects ambition, innovation, and an eye for timeless style. We envisioned a global, but locally warm bungalow home. A space that mirrors and pauses against his dynamic lifestyle. And an architectural design that reflects his passion for innovation. So yes, every element, be it the contemporary exterior, or the layered interior was designed to feel tech-savvy, yet personal.” says Ar. Amrut Deshmukh. And interestingly, spatial planning became equally important too! Despite working within a relatively compact plot, the team managed to maximize the available footprint thoughtfully; even incorporating a swimming pool (something that could have easily felt restrictive at this scale btw!). And then inside, the focus shifted towards flow, function, and refined materiality. Features like a home elevator, carefully planned circulation, and quieter detailing helped the bungalow feel more seamless in everyday use. Project Snapshot 2 : TATA Teleservices Interiors | An Ode to Employee Circulation & Productivity © Esprit Architecture, Pune Year: 2023 | Built-up Area: 2322 sq.m If there’s a corporate interior project that required Esprit architecture to take on a different route, it might be these office interiors for TATA Teleservices in Pune. Here, the brief revolved around balance and collaborative spaces. So, one the team eventually added a board room, training room and lounge areas for collaboration. And two, the design basically had a sleek office cubicle design and a modern reception lounge as per the brand’s perception and identity. In Ar. Amrut Deshmukh’s words, “We also considered every other office interior design detail thoroughly. Like, the lighting, colors, textures and graphics reflected the building’s ethos. Project Snapshot 3 : Shalimar Palace & Resort | A Journey from Celebration to Scale © Esprit Architecture, Pune Year: 2023 | Plot Area: 22226 sq.m | Built-up Area: 1607 sq.m A sprawling 5-acre site along the National Highway in Rajgurunagar, Pune sounds fairly close to an architect’s dream brief. But for Esprit Architecture, the real challenge lay in transforming it into a banquet destination that could feel equally grand, functional, and adaptable. So for that, the team envisioned a dynamic event space with expansive lawns and flexible venues that could comfortably host anywhere between 50 to 1000 guests. Alongside this, they also introduced a Maharashtrian heritage-inspired residential complex to maintain the overall cultural identity and footprint. And finally, the grand spatial planning, layered interiors, and a thoughtful event-friendly layout eventually turned this project into a fitting backdrop for weddings, cultural gatherings, exhibitions, and corporate events. In a way, the project feels less like just another venue and more like a space designed for coexistence; where celebration, scale, and tradition come together rather naturally, for me, personally!
